Dr. Mehmet Çakmak explains why they didn’t give up in the face of the challenges they encountered here: "Performing surgery under these conditions may not be ideal, but if we don’t do it, these people won’t have any other chance. - Dr. Selim Genç, Çare Doctors Health Camp - February 2024We are in a narrow hospital corridor in Yumbe, Uganda. Our volunteer doctor from Istanbul, Associate Professor Dr. Selim Genç, is describing the challenging conditions they faced and the difficulties they encountered here: “If we hadn’t come here, it would not have been possible for that child to receive treatment. Unfortunately, there is no team here capable of providing the necessary care. He had to live with cataracts until the age of 13, and there was no opportunity for surgery. After the surgery, the child turned to us and said, 'You’ve opened one of my eyes; please don’t leave without opening the other!' - Care Doctors in Tanzania!With the help of Çare Doctors, Çare Association aims to help people who cannot reach health services in Tanzania regain their health, raise their hopes and say "Sağlık olsun=May you maintain your Health!" We continue our operations and cataract surgeries at the health camp we organized. Pre-screening of approximately 500 patients was conducted by the first team that went to the region last week, and their treatment methods and needs were determined. Appointments were given to the patients who required surgical operation, and the operations were started with an intense tempo at the beginning of this week. "We are just the means."
- Revival of Hopes in Africa!Care Doctors is a charity movement started in 2019 by the Care Association. It aims to bring healing to Africans who do not have access to health services. Care Association has organized a health camp in Pangani for the second time. More than 100 surgeries and 250 cataract surgeries were performed with our volunteer doctors. The inability to perform simple surgeries that would make people's lives easier in Africa is a humanitarian tragedy for the region. According to WHO data, more than 10 million people in Africa have lost their sight due to cataracts. Care Doctors started a 6-day health camp to solve this problem and 250 cataract surgeries were successfully completed. In addition, 120 operations such as general surgery, hernia and pediatric surgery were performed.
